Achieving universal access to HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and care.

• Five thousand people are newly infected every day.

• New infections have reduced by 20% in the last ten years. However, AIDS is still the leading cause of death among women in their reproductive years.

• Only 40% of the 15 million people who need treatment have access to it.

• The epidemic is responsible for that life expectancy in many impoverished countries is 40 years lower than the rest of the world.
