We couldn\u2019t\nbe more grateful! This morning, we received the Desalambre Award for the best\nresearch or documentation thanks to our reports on the price of medications and\nthe power of the pharmaceutical industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards,\nwhich were given out for the first time, were granted by the digital newspaper\neldiario.es in an effort to recognize the work of journalists and NGOs\ndefending human rights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judging\npanel mentioned we are \u201cresponsible for various studies proving the lack of\ntransparency and public return in the medication research and development\nprocess\u201d and acknowledged our work \u201cdrafting reports that journalists and\npoliticians later use as raw material\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our\nresearchers, the decision states, \u201cdocument the speculation that is occurring\nwith the price of treatments for serious diseases which threatens the\nsustainability of and universal access to healthcare systems around the world,\nincluding in Spain\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are\ntruly grateful and pleased. We firmly believe in the importance of our work in\nachieving a healthcare research model where the interests of the public are\nprioritized over private interests and where there is full transparency in the\ncosts and price of medications. It is not easy and the barriers are immense,\nbut we are going to keep working for this cause. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
