This is\nhow we are closing out 2019 at Salud por Derecho. While this has certainly been\nan intense year of work, there have been quite a few high points along the way\nthat we would like to share with you today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Undoubtedly, one of\nthe great milestones was <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/espana-vuelve-al-fondo-mundial\/\">Spain\u2019s\nreturn to the Global Fund<\/a> to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.\nIf you read us regularly you know that this has been one of our central issues\nin recent years. <strong>The Government has pledged to contribute 100 million euros<\/strong>\nover the next three years, a first step towards Spain once again becoming a\nleader in the fight against these diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In access to\nmedicines, we launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/the-state-is-the-largest-invester-in-health-rd-but-does-not-guarantee-the-social-return-of-that-investment\/\">\u201cPublic\nInterest in Biomedical Innovation\u201d<\/a> report, in which we analyse how\nthe massive public investment in R&amp;D in health is <strong>rendered invisible\nwhen the results pass from universities and research centres to private hands<\/strong>.\nThis report was one of the reasons why Eldiario.es granted us, together with No\nes Sano, <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/weve-been-given-a-desalambre-award\/\">a\nDesalambre Award<\/a> for Best Research Work a few days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of\ntransparency, we have made progress in the information that the Ministry\nprovides on the medicines that are financed by the National Health System and\nwe were incredibly \u2013and unpleasantly\u2013 surprised to discover that pharmaceutical\ncompany Novartis is <strong>taking us to court to prevent<\/strong> us from knowing the\ncriteria under which Kymriah (an innovative therapy whose price exceeds 300,000\neuros per patient) was approved in Spain. To that end, <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/novartis-goes-to-court-to-try-to-prevent-the-government-from-making-information-public-about-the-approval-of-one-of-its-most-innovative-treatments\/\">we\nhave appeared alongside OCU in the judicial process<\/a> in order to\ndefend transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, together\nwith twenty organisations and professionals, we promoted the <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/we-presented-the-popular-legislative-initiative-medicines-at-a-fair-price-to-congress\/\">&#8216;Medicines\nat a fair price&#8217;<\/a> popular legislative initiative, through which we\nseek to take our proposals that advocate for transparency in health and\nencourage independent research and training to the Congress of Deputies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was an important piece\nof news in this regard: the publication of <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/the-oms-approves-a-proposed-resolution-for-medical-price-transparency\/\">a\nhistoric resolution<\/a> in which the\nWorld Health Organization (WHO) urges States to be more transparent and to\npublish, inter alia, <strong>the prices they pay for medicines<\/strong> and the results\nof clinical trials. Coming from the WHO, this is an enormous recognition of our\nwork and that of thousands of civil society organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot forget the marathon\nof general, regional and European elections that we experienced months ago, when\nwe r<strong>eminded political parties that <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/general-elections-lasaludesloprimero\/\">\u201chealth\ncomes first\u201d<\/a><\/strong> and worked\nintensely with them to include our proposals in their election manifestos; we\nalso worked through platforms like No es Sano and Pol\u00e9tika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the issues which,\nunfortunately, remains pending for 2020 is to end the <a href=\"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/we-demand-a-new-regulation-to-recover-every-persons-right-to-health\/\">exclusion\nfrom healthcare<\/a> that still\naffects hundreds of migrants in Spain. As of today, <strong>pregnant women, minors\nand asylum seekers who are unable to prove that they have been in the country\nfor more than 40 days have no right to be treated<\/strong> in the National Health\nSystem, a situation that cannot stand. It will continue to be one of our\npriorities for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our apologies for the earful \u2013\nbut we did warn you that we had a few things to say!
