{"id":13053,"date":"2021-12-01T09:57:34","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T08:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/?p=13053"},"modified":"2021-12-01T09:57:34","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T08:57:34","slug":"not-all-pandemics-are-fought-with-face-masks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/not-all-pandemics-are-fought-with-face-masks\/","title":{"rendered":"Not all pandemics are fought with face masks"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>We present <u>#VIHdasOlvidadas (#HIVForgottenLives)<\/u>, a campaign to speak about the impact of Covid-19 on the fight against AIDS: for the first time in history, HIV diagnosis and prevention have lost ground<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong><strong>oday is World AIDS Day<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong>AIDS is a pandemic that still affects nearly 40 million people in the world and keeps killing <strong>one million people a year<\/strong>, especially in the poorest countries.<\/p>\n<p>While Covid-19 receives the attention it deserves, HIV seems to have been forgotten more than ever. This is so true that \u2013 <strong>for the first time in history \u2013 AIDS diagnostic and prevention services have shrunk<\/strong>. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2020 alone, <strong>22% fewer HIV diagnostic tests were performed and the number of people with access to prevention programs dropped by 11%<\/strong>, according to data from the <strong>Global Fund to Fight AIDS,<\/strong> tuberculosis and malaria.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-13053 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-large'><dl class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<dt class='gallery-icon <strong>end the AIDS pandemic by<\/strong> <strong>2030<\/strong>, we need <strong>much more international funding<\/strong> that, among other things, helps to build <strong>stronger and better-prepared healthcare systems<\/strong> in the countries with the fewest resources. <strong>The <\/strong><strong>defense of human rights will also be essential <\/strong><strong>for putting an end to the stigma of the most-vulnerable populations, as well as<\/strong><strong> prevention, diagnostic and medicine programs reaching everybody <\/strong><strong>who needs them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\nThat is why <strong>we are launching <\/strong><strong>#<\/strong><strong>VIH<\/strong><strong>dasOlvidadas (#<\/strong><strong>HIV<\/strong><strong>ForgottenLives)
