{"id":13500,"date":"2022-10-17T10:52:06","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T08:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/?p=13500"},"modified":"2022-10-17T10:52:06","modified_gmt":"2022-10-17T08:52:06","slug":"rome-declaration-together-for-access-to-medicines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/rome-declaration-together-for-access-to-medicines\/","title":{"rendered":"Rome Declaration: Together for Access to Medicines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicinesalliance.eu\/\"><strong>European Alliance for Responsible R&amp;D and Affordable Medicines<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have joint their voices in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medicinesalliance.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Rome-Declaration_pdf.pdf\"><strong>Joint Rome Declaration<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to raise awareness and concerns on the most pressing issues related to\u00a0<strong>access to affordable medicines<\/strong>, including the<strong>\u00a0EU\u2019s Pharmaceutical Strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 outbreak has shown that the quest for\u00a0<strong>equitable access to medicines<\/strong>\u00a0facilitated by a\u00a0<strong>fairer biomedical R&amp;D<\/strong>\u00a0system still remain work in progress. It is time for global, European and national legislators<strong>\u00a0to bring balance to the current system of pharmaceutical incentives<\/strong>\u00a0so that it serves the public interest via a\u00a0<strong>patient-centered approach<\/strong>. to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Secure available, affordable and accessible medicines<\/li>\n<li>Use incentives for new antibiotics that delink the cost of investment in R&amp;D from the prices and volume of sales<\/li>\n<li>Set higher standards for patentability at the European Patent Office<\/li>\n<li>Remove legislative and regulatory obstacles to the use of TRIPS flexibilities<\/li>\n<li>Promote transparency of R&amp;D and other costs as well as net prices of medicines<\/li>\n<li>Adopt laws, regulations and public funding conditionalities that ensure that the results of all clinical trials are made public<\/li>\n<li>Ensure transparency and accountability of political decision at EMA and HERA<\/li>\n<li>Commit public funds to support a needs-driven approach to pharmaceutical R&amp;D and address unmet needs<\/li>\n<li>Prevent medicine shortages and reduce their impact on patients and healthcare providers<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the co-creation of European pharmaceutical policies by facilitating the meaningful involvement of patients, consumers, and healthcare professionals and civil society<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen existing legislation on the human rights duties of pharmaceutical companies in relation to access to medicines in the EU<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>We are confident that policymakers will prioritise health to enable real learning from recent crises.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Read the <a
