{"id":15330,"date":"2025-07-15T09:39:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T07:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/?p=15330"},"modified":"2025-07-15T09:39:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T07:39:20","slug":"were-launching-a-campaign-to-call-out-how-the-climate-crisis-is-being-trivialized-and-to-demand-greater-political-responsibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/saludporderecho.org\/en\/were-launching-a-campaign-to-call-out-how-the-climate-crisis-is-being-trivialized-and-to-demand-greater-political-responsibility\/","title":{"rendered":"We\u2019re launching a campaign to call out how the climate crisis is being trivialized and to demand greater political responsibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, on the European Day for the Victims of Climate Change \u2014 a day to remember those already suffering the consequences of this crisis and to emphasize the urgent need for action \u2014 we at Salud por Derecho want to remind our political representatives that <strong>taking action is essential.<\/strong> That\u2019s why we\u2019re launching the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/salud-por-derecho.mailchimpsites.com\/\">Small Talks campaign,<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to shine a light on this issue and demand responses that truly rise to the challenge.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Weather is no longer small talk | Elevator\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Yosll_XvnNg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With this campaign, we want to highlight the huge gap between the <strong>real urgency of the climate emergency<\/strong> and the casual way it\u2019s still all too often addressed in political and public discussions<\/p>\n<p>We created this project using humor and irony to reveal something deeply serious: the dangerous <strong>disconnect between words and the actual scale of the problem<\/strong>. In the campaign videos, you\u2019ll see fictional public figures casually chatting about the weather while surrounded by wildfires or standing knee-deep in water and mud. By putting this lack of ambition and the trivialization of the debate side by side with reality, we want to make it clear: looking the other way has a direct and devastating impact on the health of millions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Weather is no longer small talk | Presidential Office\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TAVEFTUbaHE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em data-start=\"4541\" data-end=\"4554\">Small Talks<\/em> is built on facts that speak for themselves. According to the World Health Organization and the latest Lancet Countdown report, Europe is warming at twice the global average rate, and extreme heat has caused more than <strong>100,000 deaths on the continent<\/strong> just between 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In Spain, the situation is especially alarming: this <strong>June was the hottest month ever recorde<\/strong>d, with highs reaching 46\u00b0C in El Granado (Huelva) and nights that didn\u2019t drop below 24\u00b0C. This prevents the body from recovering and drastically raises cardiovascular risks. In that single month, <strong>380 heat-related deaths<\/strong> were recorded \u2014 ten times more than in June of the previous year. So far in 2025, there have already been 2,168 deaths linked to extreme temperatures, accounting for 68% of all climate-related deaths registered throughout 2024, according to Spain\u2019s Carlos III Health Institute.<\/p>\n<p>But climate change doesn\u2019t just drive heat-related deaths. It\u2019s also fueling more intense forest fires, lengthening pollen seasons, which <strong>worsens allergies and chronic conditions. <\/strong>and allowing diseases like dengue or West Nile virus, once confined to tropical areas, to spread. Burning fossil fuels pollutes the air we breathe, causing thousands of premature deaths. And all of this is<strong> also taking a toll on our mental health<\/strong>: anxiety, depression, and suicide risk rise with heatwaves but also with the constant fear of an uncertain climate future \u2014 the so-called eco-anxiety that especially affects young people.<\/p>\n<p>If you also believe it\u2019s time for our political representatives to take real action, please share<strong><a
