A week before the United Nations High-Level Meeting on AIDS begins in New York, Salud por Derecho has organized the conference “30th Anniversary of HIV/AIDS: Challenges on the road to Universal Access“ in CaixaForum Madrid to discuss the challenges that international community still has to win the fight against AIDS.
The conference was opened by the Spanish Ambassador on special mission for Public-Private Partnerships in Global Health, Jose Luis Solano, and the Spanish Secretary of the National AIDS Plan, Tomás Hernández, along with the President of Salud por Derecho, Manuel Rodriguez and the Executive Director, Vanessa Lopez.
Pedro Zerolo, Secretary of Social Movements and Relations with NGOs of the Spanish Socialist Party and Goodwill Ambassador for UNAIDS Latin America and the Caribbean closed the conference.
The full day conference consisted of five panels. In each of them was discussed what we have considered the five major challenges in the coming years to achieve universal access: political will, respect of human rights, financing, access to treatment and R&D of new biomedical products and integration HIV/AIDS with other health services

In the coming days we will be publishing a special E-NEWS about the conference with all speakers’ presentations, pictures and videos of the event.
