Salud por Derecho's position on COP27 and climate change commitments COP27, held over the past few weeks in Egypt, represented an opportunity to phase out fossil fuel consumption. However, despite the urgency of the climate crisis, the international community once again concluded the meeting with no firm commitments or exit strategies. In the days leading up to the summit, Salud por Derecho asked the Spanish government... Licensing and access to health technologies: overcoming the obstacles to public on public investment in R&D Today, during an online event together with different international organizations, we presented our report Licensing and access to health technologies: overcoming the obstacles to public on public investment in R&D, which we produced together with Health Action International. Both the event and the report sets out from the assumption that public support for research and development... We cannot wait any longer: health must be at the core of the response to the climate crisis COP27 has just begun – the UN climate summit, where governments, researchers, private sector and civil society come together to tackle the climate emergency. WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom, said that it was fundamental to put health at the core of all responses and pushed for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. According to The Lancet’s... Rome Declaration: Together for Access to Medicines The members of the European Alliance for Responsible R&D and Affordable Medicines have joint their voices in the Joint Rome Declaration to raise awareness and concerns on the most pressing issues related to access to affordable medicines, including the EU’s Pharmaceutical Strategy. The COVID-19 outbreak has shown that the quest for equitable access to medicines facilitated by a fairer biomedical R&D system still remain work in... Inequalities in transparency about clinical trials results in Europe The majority of unreported drug trial results in Europe are now concentrated within just four countries, highlighting the strong differences in regulatory quality between European Union member states, shows a new report, led by Transparimed and supported by other organizations, including Salud por Derecho. WE ARE INDEPENDENT

At Salud por Derecho we define our own agenda and defend it against all odds. We design our projects and campaigns with a singular focus on what is needed to change things and defend human rights.

ADVOCACY

We believe in the possibility of changing the world around us and in the power of citizens and ideas. To that end we campaign, formulate proposals and advocate for change, placing the focus on the responsibility of governments and political representatives.

WE WORK AS PART OF A NETWORK

We sit different stakeholders down at the same table and work in partnership with other civil society organizations; professional, academic and patient associations; and think tanks and social movements in fields like global health, development, social justice and the economy.

WHAT WE DO

Image module

40 million people are currently infected with the AIDS virus worldwide and only 50% have access to treatment. We work towards an adequate global response to this pandemic and eradicating it entirely.

Image module

The current pharmaceutical R&D model is broken, as evidenced by the high prices of medicine and lack of research into unprofitable diseases. Our efforts are geared towards a just and sustainable model.

Image module

Millions of people get sick and die from causes that could largely be prevented with access to health services. We work towards a model of social protection to ensure universal access.

You can catch a plane and travel the world with your backpack full of medicine. You can switch careers and become a doctor and go to where they need you most. You can study law and fight to change it in the heart of the European Union. You can also give up everything and dedicate your life to creating a more just world that gives everyone equal access to health. You can do all of these things, but you can also become a Salud por Derecho member or associate and support those who are already doing these things for you.
