At Salud por Derecho we believe that health is a human right that should be guaranteed for all. Yet this is not the case we are working so that political parties commit to making global health a priority.
The upcoming legislative elections that will take place in Spain on the 20th of November coupled with the ensuing new legislature foster the ideal climate for heeding new proposals. In this context, Salud por Derecho team has been carrying out various activities in order to ensure, among other things, that development for health becomes a priority for the new government.
The first such action was the preparation of the report “A Road Map for Spanish Cooperation in Health for the Legislature 2011-2015 ” that encompasses proposals and recommendations for political parties to include in their programmes for the upcoming elections and their subsequent actions, whoever governs after the elections. The report also includes the main messages that we believe are indispensable for political parties to include in their election programmes. All of these proposals are based on Salud por Derecho’s vision of how to progress towards attaining the right to health around the world and how Spain can contribute.
Moreover, encouraged by the current climate of social mobilization and participation, the major political parties are paying close attention to citizens’ proposals. This is why we have activated a petition -#memolaria, calling for parties to ensure that their electoral programmes include the right to health- This petition will enable citizens, with their signature, to call upon parties with parliamentary representation to commit to ensuring the right to health for all, including the people from most underprivileged countries, and to drive forward any and all political decisions necessary to attain this goal.
If you also share this aspiration – The Right to Health for All as a Political Priority-, then you can help us make it happen today by signing and disseminating the petition!
